Privacy Policy
Last updated 3 November 2026
This policy explains how Fishcluster handles personal data. In Nigeria, Fishcluster's operations are carried out by Fishcluster Industries Limited (RC 9660667), which is the data controller for the data described here. Fishcluster Inc. operates this website.
We process personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and other laws that apply to us.
Who this policy covers
- Farmers we onboard, support and, where agreed, finance or supply with equipment.
- Our staff and field agents who use our operations tools.
- Visitors to fishcluster.com and people who contact us through it.
What we collect
From farmers, when we onboard and work with you:
- Identity and contact details: full name, phone number, email address (optional), photo, home address and its location.
- Identity numbers for verification: BVN and NIN. These are encrypted when stored, and only staff whose role requires them can see them in full.
- Farm and pond details: location, photos, size, species, stocking and feeding information.
- Readings from devices installed on your ponds, such as water quality, and the alerts we raise from them.
- Agreements you sign, and records of financing, deposits and payments into the bank accounts we assign you.
- Results of identity and credit checks, where you have agreed to them.
From WhatsApp, if you agree to receive messages from us:
- Your WhatsApp phone number, the messages we send you, your replies, and whether each message was delivered and read.
From website visitors:
- What you send through our forms, such as your name, organisation, email and phone number.
- Basic technical data your browser sends when you visit, such as your IP address and browser type.
How we use it
- To onboard and verify farmers, and to keep the records the law and our financing partners require.
- To monitor your ponds, warn you of risks, and support feeding and farm operations.
- To provide financing, equipment and payment services you have agreed to.
- To contact you about your farm by phone, SMS, email or WhatsApp.
- To keep an audit trail of who changed what in our systems, so that every decision can be checked.
- To answer enquiries sent through our website.
- To improve our services, using combined data that does not identify you wherever we can.
We rely on your consent (for example, for WhatsApp messages and credit checks), on the contract between us, on our legal obligations, and on our legitimate interest in running a safe and reliable service.
WhatsApp messages
We only send you WhatsApp messages if you have agreed, usually when a field agent onboards you. These messages are short summaries of open alerts on your ponds.
- Reply 1 to acknowledge the latest alert.
- Reply STOP at any time to stop WhatsApp messages. You can also ask your field agent or email us.
WhatsApp is provided by Meta. Messages pass through Meta's WhatsApp Business Platform and are also subject to WhatsApp's privacy policy. We do not use WhatsApp for advertising, and we do not sell your data.
Who we share it with
We share personal data only as needed to provide our services, and only with:
- Service providers that work on our behalf, under contract: cloud hosting (Railway), messaging (Meta WhatsApp Business Platform, and SMS and email providers), payments and virtual accounts (Monnify), identity and credit checks (Smile ID), and website forms (Formspree).
- Financing partners, where you apply for or receive financing through us.
- Authorities, where the law requires it.
Some of these providers process data outside Nigeria. Where they do, we rely on the safeguards the Nigeria Data Protection Act allows.
How long we keep it
We keep personal data for as long as we work with you, and afterwards only as long as the law requires, for example for financial, identity verification and audit records. After that we delete it or make it anonymous.
How we protect it
Access is limited by role. Sensitive identity numbers are encrypted. Every change to onboarding, financing and device records is logged. Phone numbers and message text are kept out of our system logs.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your personal data;
- correct data that is wrong;
- delete your data, where we are not required to keep it;
- stop or limit how we use it, or object to a use;
- withdraw a consent you gave, such as for WhatsApp messages.
To do any of these, see how to request deletion of your data or email admin@fishcluster.com. We reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Changes
We will update this page when our practices change and show the date of the latest version at the top.
